Sporting News staff reports Oakland Athletics infielder Eric Chavez tells the San Francisco Chronicle he has “pondered” retirement because of multiple injuries but hasn’t made up his mind. Chavez says in an e-mail to Chronicle beat writer Susan Slusser that he wants to return to action this season. He is on the disabled list because of bulging disks in his neck.
